One of Mexico’s most popular snacks is Chicharones, crispy fried pork skin with the texture of a thick potato chip. In the U.K. they are called pork scratchings and in the South in the U.S. cracklin.
In Mexico Chicharones come in large sheets and are typically eaten with chili sauce. They are sold by street food vendors in most zocalos (squares) and parks. On the weekend they are a popular treat for families out for the day. They are also sold by the case in supermarkets.

true. But the one thing favorite foods seem to have in common is how unhealthy they are--typically fried or full of sugar.
Oh the memories! How I love thee, Chicharones! They were my WORST guilty pleasure in Mexico (and that's saying a LOT) I could not resist the snack. I even bought a little bag back of authentic Chicharones and ate them on the plane on my way out of town. Total "vacation food" cause I could never eat those on a regular basis. Thanks for the fond remembrance.

Chili sauce, yes. On the plane too, no less. The flight attendants hated me :-) but I was in chicharones heaven!!
