New York City Water Falls

The New York City Water Falls art installation has not been without controversy. The Brooklyn Heights Association asked that they be turned off a month early claiming salt water spray was causing damage to nearby foliage. Instead operating hours were cut in half.

Created by artist Olafur Eliasson they will by on display until October 13th. There are four in total. The largest, at the base of the Brooklyn Bridge, is 120 feet. They flow Tuesday and Thursday-Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Monday-Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

I saw all 4 waterfall installations in the summer, and thought they were pretty disappointing in reality... the art highlight of the year for me was the Louise Bourgeois retrospective exhibition at the Guggenheim.. that was a real art gem!! catherine

I've been back a week and crossed the bridge several times but still haven't managed to see the installation. And I really want to! At least now I have your photo. :)

Hi Catherine, I was underwhelmed by the waterfalls.

Hi Anja, welcome back to NY! You still have a few weeks left to catch them.

The waterfalls aren't as spectacular as advertised. But sitting at the Seaport after the sun had set, looking at them while watching all the city lights reflect off the water... definitely worth the trip.
