Inauguration Bound!

I just found out a few hours ago that I’m going to the inauguration! A dear friend hooked me up with a ticket and all has fallen into place. My brother will be in DC on business related to the event so I have a place to stay, something that would have been impossible to secure at the last minute. I think I may have booked the last bus tickets available to get there and back. I’ll have plenty to post when I return.

You are probably wondering what the above picture has to do with the inauguration. It is of a small café in Uruapan, Mexico where a decadent piece of cake was being a washed down with café con leche. Catherine and I and another buddy stepped out of the hotel after watching election coverage to grab a bite to eat thinking there would be hours to go before it was clear who won. A big screen television played in the background. We knew who won when a group of about 10 men sitting at a table next to us began to cheer.

Sorry but when this all inauguration buzz hit the blogsphere at first it was a mystery to me and now 'buying tickets' - it's just too much turning politics into pop. I mean it's your country so shouldn't people care more then just the flesh?

Hi Catherine,
Thanks. I’m craving that café’s huevos rancheros. It’s the breakfast of champions. Look forward to your post.

Hi Koala,
The tickets were not sold. About 240,000 of them were distributed to senators and congressman and to get them people had to apply to their local representative. They are free. There are more than 300 million people in this country with countless differing backgrounds and views so I’m always amused when Americans are portrayed as all the same who have only one way of looking at things.
No one person can fix what’s broken in this country or mend what our country is responsible for in the rest of the world but for the first time in a long time many people have hope that we can get on the long road that heads in that direction. There hasn’t been hope in a long time.

I just love Mexican Dish...
I used to go to Mexican restaurant here in the Philippines but it closed after a few months. I really missed Mexican Cuisine...:)

Yeah, you're right but it feels kinda wrong. But maybe I just don't like the turn politics took worldwide. The ideas got lost somewhere behind the media contest. Same here unfortunately.

Congrats, what a coup! Since I'm from Chicago, I orginally planned to attend as well but my husband and I decided it was too much to drag our kids through with the cold and crowds. We'll be watching the coverage all day and I'll be waiting for yours!

Lakshmi, I was so happy to be there.
Iloilo, I love Mexican cuisine as well.
Koala, I'm with you on the media contest.
Fly Girl, it was very cold and crowded and would have been crazy to navigate with children I imagine.
Gennaro and Gil, Thanks.
