Street Scenes: Mobile Temple Mumbai

There are certain cities in the world where you can stand in one spot and the constant stream of activity that passes by will keep you mentally and visually stimulated for hours. Or as long as you choose to stay. I live in one of them. Mumbai is another.

This temple on wheels rolled down one of Mumbai’s many busy streets. The images you see are of Shirdi Sai Baba, a saint who is worshipped by Hindus and Muslims throughout India and the Hindu Goddess Durga, the fighter of all demons. Worshippers make offerings to mobile temples, which you will see in many of India’s big cities. They often have loudspeakers playing religious prayers and songs.

Which cities of the world never fail to keep you mesmerized?

I live in Mumbai. And have visited your city as well. :-)

There are other places in India which keep me awestruck.

And I think that Mexico City is another one of those cities...

I'd say New York, London and Paris - those cities can't be compared to Mumbai but they never fail to keep me mesmerized. Hope I can experience Mumbai one day though. I think I'd love it there. I like busy cities.

Wow. A mobile temple, that really sums up Indian culture. Most major cities keep me mesmerized, I'm a total city girl but Florence and London probably mesmerize me the best.

I think Belmopan definitely makes the list. Just kidding. But I do quite like people watching in Barcelona. Everyone is just so cool there, somehow.

Any city in India. Sample this: Roorkee is not even a small town - the only claims to fame being IIT and Cantonment. One day, I saw a bullock cart (on tyres and not wooden wheels) carrying several desktops (packed) inside the campus. You had both extremes - on the same sample.

The main reason for such poor behavior is bad / dug up roads and poorly timed signals. Many people get frustrated because they get held up in traffic jams caused by poor roads and signals. People traveling for a long distance (eg. Fort - Borivali) are worst affected. The frustration and stress builds up to such a level, that when an empty stretch of road is seen, one tends to rip his car.
Wishing you well :) .

Kristine,
You are so right about Barcelona and the cool factor.

Kalyan, that would have been a major photo opportunity.

Zingtrail, wish you well also.

I was in India this past summer and this brings back so many memories. I can't imagine there is a more randomly interesting place in the world. Everywhere you look is something different.

Great post. NYC and Mumbai certainly fit the bill. I was in Singapore last week and saw similar scenes in Chinatown. I bet Beijing and Shanghai and Tokyo would be the same too.

That is so odd...

Gennaro, Agreed.

Vamsee, Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo def fit the bill.

Jen, It might be in other cities but not in big cities in India.
