Waking up to the Call to Prayer echoing throughout a metropolis is peaceful, powerful and beautiful. But there are some experiences you can’t transport home.
Enter the mosque alarm clock. You’ll find them in Dubai, other parts of the Middle East and North Africa. Made of plastic it comes in a variety of sizes and colors and lights up when the alarm goes off. The voice of the tone-deaf muezzin makes him sound as though he is falling off a building. Perhaps one day the recording will be updated with one more appealing to the ear. Inshallah. In the meantime for your listening pleasure here is a link to a video of said alarm clock on youtube. It’s the extended remix version. No snoozing allowed.
The clock does have an upside. If you live in an apartment building with thin walls and noisy neighbors it’s a perfect way to get even. Do try this at home.

A friend of my got me one of these from Dubai a few years back, hilarious. It doesn't quite have the same effect in an apartment blaring with a bad recording.
I saw a very nice one of these once with a light in the dome and which ever way you turned the clock, the light would appear in the segment of the dome that pointed towards Mecca.

That pink one is quite attractive - I wish i had bought the crucifixion clock I once saw in san Miguel!!
I'd love to give one of these as a Ramadaan gift for my Muslim friends.
Anil, I brought back the white one pictured from Dubai. It took a while to figure out that you have to press down the dome to turn the alarm off.
BBE, That sounds pretty cool.
Catherine, next time don't spend all your money on Ficks :^)
Fly Girl, I'd love to experience Ramadan one of these years, especially the feasting after fasting.
This clock is really wild. Now I know what to ask people to bring me from their trips to that part of the world!
